Pi Mu Epsilon

Pi Mu Epsilon is the National Mathematics Honor Society.  The purpose of PME is to promote scholarly activity in mathematics among the students in academic institutions.

I personally feel that Mathematics is vital to civilization, culture, progress, science, techology, and life in general.  I think Mathematics is a beautiful language and I love it.  For example, every March 14 I celebrate Pi Day (3.14) with my co-workers by eating only circular or spherical food such as pizza and oranges.  (However, I do agree with the Tau Day people that Tau is the more nearly appropriate circle constant.)

My feelings about the importance of mathematics are summed up in this quote:  "Anyone who cannot cope with mathematics is not fully human. At best he is a tolerable subhuman who has learned to wear shoes, bathe, and not make messes in the house." -- Robert A. Heinlein, Time Enough for Love
